About Neil Shoots People
Washington DC Photographer Neil Greenberg always seems to be thinking, streamlining and focusing - fitting the view in front of him into a 35mm frame.
Starting in working dog photography, Greenberg spent 10 years studying composition, color and lighting before he would embark on Alternative Fashion portraiture and launch Neil Shoots People.
"I like to take advantage of the DIY scene we have here in the Washington DC area. The new work I've been doing has involved alternative fashion. I really enjoy working with alt models, musicians and others involved in physical self-expression and alternative lifestyles."
"Alternative Fashion photography invokes the most impact when the people in the photo are a part of the world that falls off the social grid. You can take a stunning model and put her into some latex - but if she is from the mainstream than what’s the point? You have to be where the alternative people are and they have to trust you enough to come back onto the social grid long enough to expose who they are and how they want to be revealed."
Philosophy
Remove the fancy packaging, disregard Freud and all the special equipment and you might just discover the real strengths of a photographer.
I like things to be straightforward and pure. I like to make something with a minimum of equipment.
Some photographers work as if they were on an elborate film set. It can be nice when you have the means.
I always do everything by myself. I just keep in mind the most important thing is the final shot, my own vision.
I create from nothing, and want to transform that nothing into something not just different, but magical.
